Jays Humble High Voltage

New Lenox, IL - You win as a team and you lose as a team.  High Voltage came into the game with a 3-0 record against 1-1 Brew Jays. The game started out well with HV shutting down the Jays in the top half of the first inning while scoring seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 7-0 early. Brew Jays threatened in the 2nd inning but only pushed two runs across while HV scored three runs to extend to a 10-2 lead.  Jays then busted out for seven runs of their own while HV went scoreless to tighten the game at 10-9 heading into the 4th inning. Each team swapped a five spot in the 4th inning with HV holding a narrow 15-14 edge going into the fateful 5th inning.  Jays scored nine runs in an inning that looked like a pre-2022 type effort of giving the opponent extra outs on defensive misplays. Jays lead 23-17 after 5 innings and were able to tack on two more runs in the 6th while shutting out High Voltage in the next two innings for a 25-17 Jays victory in a playoff-type game that may end up in a rematch when the post season begins in July. The night featured Stapes going 5-for-5 with an RBI and a fine circus catch in the 2nd inning, Koz 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, and the star of the night, Zlogar.  Z went 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBI and made a couple of nice plays in right field.  Hours before game time, Ken became a late scratch (Hip) and has been listed as week-to-week.  That gave the start at third base to Pratl.  Next week is a bye for High Voltage.  Action returns on May 30th in a rematch against Beggars.at 6:30PM.  Draft Kings oddsmaker Chance Gamble has put out a statement that DK will not be accepting bets as to which team will have the third base dugout.  Gamble; "Beggars has one player who absolutely doesn't have a life, and will be in the dugout by 2PM".

Notables:

Cycle - Ronnie steps out of the box thus allowing Zlogar to tip his hat to the appreciative crowd who gave him a standing ovation for his effort at the plate.  Z hit for the cycle last night that started with a two-RBI single in the first inning.  Z followed up with a clutch three-run homerun in the second inning while tripling to start a rally in the 4th inning.  One young fan remarked; "he runs like Fred Flintstone"....yeah, yabba dabba dooooo baby!  The final piece of the puzzle was an RBI double in the 5th inning when an elated Zlogar stood on second base and pronounce to the world that he had just hit for the cycle.  Congratulations Z on achieving the rare feat!

When Did We Become Ivy League - High Voltage ran out of homeruns with no outs in the 4th inning after Sutes launched a three-run homer to Minooka. The 5th inning featured homerun outs by both Sutor and Pratl to earn their way into the fine book.  Oddly enough, Sutes only out of the game was a homerun.  Try explaining that to someone.

Grounded - Nana is going nowhere.  At least behind the drivers seat of her Toyota.

This mess had the westbound lane of Route 30 bottled up near Cedar Rd, which already was congested due to construction. Investigating the scene was none other than our favorite, Officer Nykiel.  We had stat department apprentice, Trey Numero, do some "investigating" of his own.  Here's what he conjured up on Dave's career numbers as a Masterbatter:
Games Played: 17th (32)
Plate Appearances: 18th (104)
At Bats: 17th (100)
Hits: 15th (62)
Walks: 28th (2)
On Base: 15th (64)
BA (Min 10 games): 6th (.620)
OB% (Min 10 games): 7th (.615)
Slugging (Min 10 games): 4th (1.110)
OPS (Min 10 games): 4th (1.725)
ISO (Min 10 games): 4th (.490)
Runs: 15th (40)
RBI: 15th (57)
Singles: 19th (36)
Doubles: 16th (12)
Triples: T13th (5)
HR: 5th (9)
Total Bases: 14th (111)

Dave was an impactful player and in only 32 games put up numbers that still stack up to this day. Cheers!

Mr. Zlogar's Neighborhood - Thank you Liz and Mike for sharing your house and mountains of food!

Jeff - Not sure how a guy who wasn't there had such a prominent spot on the Z patio but the Artist must have connections.  Rhetorical rant:  You spent the day with Ken and Kathy, why the hell wouldn't you want to break away from that house-moving comedy show and get some R & R at La Casa de Miguel?

Tip Jar - The bucket is getting quite a lot of attention from non-players these days.  Many questions being asked if last year's money is still in the bucket or what will be done with the money.  The bucket cannot talk so we'll just have to respect its wishes.  Tuesday fines go to Foster (2) two pop outs, Pratl (1) a HR Out, Sutor (1) HR Out, Koz (1) can of corn, and Jack (2) cans of corn.  The "bucket judge" is putting out a warning that some of the outs have been liberally kept off of the ledger but that will change next week when any arcing fly ball that does not require an outfielder to run their ass off to catch it will be considered a fine.  Delinquent fines from May 9th are Jack (1) and Jeff (2).  If you paid but we are unaware, let treasurer Bombastic Bushkin know and we'll get your name crossed off.  If you did not pay, Mr. Bushkin will be paying you a visit.

Contagious - Ken now joins the list of Oakland A's caps.  This nice rendition sports the Elephant mascot that nobody has a clue as to what it represents.  Well, if you learn something every day, you're a lucky person.  Pull up a chair for an education. In 1902, Baltimore owner and player/manager (Thee original Cap'n Jack) John McGraw said that the American League is a loser from the start and picked on the Philadelphia A's by adding; "The Athletics are not making any money and are so burdened with debt that owner Ben Shibe has a "white elephant" on his hands (baseballhall.org).  The owner of the A's, Ben Shibe, out of defiance for McGraw's statement, adopted the white elephant as the team's mascot..........and now you know the story.

Cousin Troy - Cousin Troy from Ivy League and his wife Erin had a baby boy on Tuesday, Dawson Brody.  Ever the memorabilia collector, Troy had his son sign a baseball with his toe print.  Congratulations Erin and Troy!
