Volts Edge Ivy

Image
New Lenox, IL - With only six teams in the Tuesday league, nearly every week is a tough matchup.  Last night was no exception as High Voltage and Ivy League continued their rivalry in the late game. Ivy jumped on it from the beginning by putting up a seven spot in the top of the first inning. The Volts answered back immediately by opening their half with singles by the Daily Double. Stapes followed with a three-run bomb to quickly get on the board.  Sutes continued the hit parade with a rare single, and would eventually score on a Jamaica single.  Volts trailed 7-4 after an inning. Ivy continued to apply the pressure by scoring four runs in the second inning to take an 11-4 lead. The Volts tallied on a Jack double followed by a two-run missile by Koz to centerfield. Stapes followed with a single and ultimately scored on a Zlogar sacrifice fly. Volts found themselves trailing 11-7 heading into the third inning. Ivy went scoreless in the third, which gave the Volts ...

White Horse Legs Out Victory

New Lenox, IL - At the outset of the night, High Voltage had an opportunity to put itself in a tie for second place if it could win against the resurgent White Horse.  The game was close from the gate as High Voltage scored two runs in the first inning with White Horse coming back with a three spot for a 3-2 lead after an inning. The Volts went scoreless in the second while W.H. tacked on a run to take a 4-2 lead after two frames. The Volts briefly tied the game at four before W.H. put up four runs to lead 8-4 after three innings. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning but the Volts came back in the fifth with a three run rally to close the score to 8-7. That is when White Horse kicked clear with an eight run outpouring to open up the lead to 16-7.  White Horse had a couple of chances to end the game on run rule but the feisty Volts shut the door on both attempts, and played out the seven inning game.  The Volts could only muster up two more runs to fall 1...

Jays Wire Volts

Image
New Lenox, IL - Different week, same result against the Brew Jays as High Voltage got run-ruled 19-9 in five innings.  The captain was short and simple with his post game comments; "Tonight we simply got beat. A classic Brew Jays story of hitting the ball where we weren't. We didn't deserve to win this one".  That says it all, and off we go. Next week is an important game against White Horse at 7:30PM.  The Volts look to make amends for a playoff loss against the resurgent scrappy White Horse. Notables: Time and Temp - A very pleasant evening to play baseball.  Everyone is waiting for some moisture to set in with the cooler weather and help tamp down dry surface of Mars.....i.e. the infield at the Lions Den.  Thanks go out to Gazette reader, Dusty Road, for getting to the game early and sharing the moment.
