Volts Edge Ivy

New Lenox, IL - With only six teams in the Tuesday league, nearly every week is a tough matchup.  Last night was no exception as High Voltage and Ivy League continued their rivalry in the late game. Ivy jumped on it from the beginning by putting up a seven spot in the top of the first inning. The Volts answered back immediately by opening their half with singles by the Daily Double. Stapes followed with a three-run bomb to quickly get on the board.  Sutes continued the hit parade with a rare single, and would eventually score on a Jamaica single.  Volts trailed 7-4 after an inning. Ivy continued to apply the pressure by scoring four runs in the second inning to take an 11-4 lead. The Volts tallied on a Jack double followed by a two-run missile by Koz to centerfield. Stapes followed with a single and ultimately scored on a Zlogar sacrifice fly. Volts found themselves trailing 11-7 heading into the third inning. Ivy went scoreless in the third, which gave the Volts an opportunity to grab momentum, and they did just that. With one out, Dylan walked to start the rally. Jeff and Ken singled to load the bases for Foster, who would launch a double over the disrespectful defense for two RBI's. Jack, Koz, and Stapes all followed with RBI singles before Sutes cleared the bases with a three RBI shot that cleared Gougar Road. The eight runs put the Volts in the lead 15-11 after three innings. Ivy scratched back with three runs in their half of the 4th inning to cut the score to 15-14.  The Volts had victory on their mind this evening as Jeff led off the bottom of the inning with a double, followed by a Ken single and a Ryno walk.  Jack pushed in a run with a SAC fly.  Koz doubled to score Thee Runner Known as Ken, with Stapes ending the scoring with a two-run single to put the Volts in front 19-14 after four innings. Ivy rallied for four runs to cut the deficit to one run heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.  The Volts tacked on two more runs as Dylan singled to start the inning, followed by a Jeff double.  D scored on Ken's RBI single down the left-field line with Jeff scoring one at-bat later on a Ryno SAC fly. Ivy went 1-2-3 in the sixth inning, and the game ended as time lapsed for a High Voltage 21-18 victory in a thriller. Next week's game is at 6:30PM against the Daytona Turtles. Come on out to the ball park as this will likely be the last game of the year played with any amount of daylight.

Notables:

Standings - With the victory on Tuesday, the Volts moved into sole possession of 4th place with a 3-3 record. The team shouldn't be looking ahead, but the Gazette will.  The Volts have a legitimate shot at gaining second place in the standings if the team can win out against the Turtles and Beggars.  That would put the volts at 5-3 on the season and in need of some help. The Volts would have any tie-breaker against Beggars at 5-3, so White Horse who are currently 4-2, would need to lose out against Ivy League and The Brew Jays.  The Volts cannot finish in a tie against White Horse because of a loss head-to-head, so this is the best path to second place and a first round bye.......and potentially cash.

Speaking of Cash - It does get cold out there in October and November; not to mention early spring.  The Gazette is not going to host Beanie Night, so get your stuff together Volts management and design something good to reward the fans who watch the team every week and occasionally freeze their asses.  It's called Spirit Wear.

Milk Crate Money - Even with the "stern" e-mail from Liz, the batters box was its old self on Tuesday.  The Commish may have his hands tied financially as the Sanctuary range and practice green was quickly dug up last month to make way for a Top Golf style replacement.  Maybe it is a DIY job after all.

Don't F With Electricity - The Volts showed their old resilience in Tuesday evenings contest by fighting back from an early 7-0 deficit and matching Ivy League punch for punch until putting them away in the end. Pratl was a late scratch on account of having to travel to Florida for business.  Deb took the night off too.  Any possibility she went to the sunshine state as well???

Helper - An assist goes out to the Live Wires on Tuesday for the hootin' and hollerin'.  Lauren II is being eclipsed in this picture but the voices were loud and clear all the way to the Ivy bench.  Those girls would look cute in a Volts beanie........just saying.

Hi, My Name is Jeff - That is the name tag that everyone in the Kozlowski household will be wearing from now on.  Jeff turns out to be the Dog Whisperer with his magical spell on the four-month old and playful Argus.  Maybe the dog will behave for the rest of us if he thinks our name is Jeff.

Fight in the On-deck Circle - Although Zlogar batted fifth in Tuesday's lineup, he wanted to push the Cap'n out of the way to get to bat in the first inning.  Z slashed a first inning single as the first five Volts reached base to start the game.

More Magic - After a brief few seconds with the Dog Whisperer, Argus is well behaved for Gale.  The dog would look great chewing on one of those Volts beanies...........just saying.

Pitching Quarters - Ken has taken a new direction with the old sidewalk game.  Ken struck up a game of Pitching Softballs while the ballgame was getting under way.  Ken took Billy The Bum for five dollars in about ten seconds worth of work.  We'll let the actuary in Florida figure out the hourly rate.

Sutes Case - Sutes takes in a counseling session with Scoots on the finer points of defensive play.  Scoots was overheard as saying; "play like number 2, don't play like a number 2".

A Homerun Is An Out? - Ivy leads the world in homerun outs.  They hit three more on Tuesday night; including two in a row to end the fifth inning, and one more for good measure to end the game.
