Volts Singe Beggars

New Lenox, IL - The evening started out with High Voltage locked in a three-way battle for first place with the Brew Jays and arch-rival Beggars.  When the night ended, the Volts left Beggars wondering what happened in the seventh inning of their game.  Coupled with a Brew Jay loss, High Voltage finds themselves in sole possession of first place in the Tuesday Men's league as the only remaining undefeated team at 3 - 0.  The visiting Volts did not get off to the customary start after a Jack leadoff walk, Koz popout, and Stapes fielders choice.  With two out, Sutes hit a double to keep the inning alive for Noah to drill a much needed three-run homerun into the basketball courts for a three to nothing lead.  Beggars answered back with a run of their own in the first to trail 3-1 after an inning. The Volts came right back with a four-spot powered by a Ryno three-run homerun to stake a 7-1 lead.  Beggars fought right back by scoring their first four batters but the rally stalled after that with long outs to Koz and Jack. The Volts led 7-5 after two frames. Both teams added two runs in their third innings for the Volts to remain ahead by a two run margin, 9-7. While the Volts did not exactly light up the scoreboard, they added two runs in the fifth inning while Ryno put down eight straight Beggar batters before a meaningless single in the scoreless sixth inning.  Heading into the 7th and final inning, the Volts led 11-7 before the complexity of this game did a complete turnaround.  The Volts went on a tear, partially aided by some bad defense, to shell Beggars for a 12 run outburst and a 23- 7 lead heading into the last half inning.  The inning featured a Sutes three-run blast to centerfield and was followed by a Noah inside-the-park homerun.  Beggars scored two in their final at bat to fall to the Volts 23-9.  The Volts currently hold the leagues highest run total at 54 while boasting a stingy 13 runs against.  The Volts come back next Tuesday to take on the Brew Jays for another battle for first place.  Game time is at 8:30PM weather permitting.

Noteables:

Miller Lite Players of the Game - El Capitan' went all the way to Milwaukee to grab this beer, and was kind enough to scope out the players of the game.  Noah went 5 for 5 with 2 HR's, 4 RBIs, and 5 Runs Scored. Jeff was 3 for 3 with a walk, a SAC Fly, 3 RBIs, and 2 Runs Scored.  Dylan was 1 for 1 with 3 walks, 1 RBI, and 2 Runs Scored.  Koz, who had a rare tough night at the plate, did his talking with his glove making 6 putouts defensively.

Good Golly - Miss Molly is doing much better this week after a trip to Dr. Nick, which meant that Ken was in attendance for the first time this year.  Without softball as a distraction, Ken might be able to slide down an extra beer or two on Tuesday evenings.

Daily Double Clairvoyants - While the boys went a collective 1 for 7 with that being an infield hit, to go along with two walks, these two cats didn't let that get them down as they went 1 for 1 in the predicting department.  With Jeff batting and the outfield shifting way over to the right, Jack & Jake talked about taking a poke to left field being easy money..............and Jeff did just that only a second later for a base hit as he flared a hit in front of the left fielder.

Finely Tuned - The Volts have the league's best pre-game warmup routine.  Zlogar is seen doing the twist with his bat in his hand while Stapes looks on and stretches his groin.  Not seen is Ryno cracking his knuckles to prepare for a pitching effort, and potential brawl against the hated arch-rivals.

In Defense - Beggars defenders are seen here early in the night when they were still able to see the ball.  Things got dicey late as their normal pitcher, Johnny Hotshot, played right field and did his best impression of Eloy Jimenez, as he did not see a Noah pop fly, which turned into an inside the parker.

Hey Der -  Well look who we found at a Brewers game, our favorite fan, Lauren I.  This is no slight to Lauren II.  You are a favorite and we see you all the time.  The Gazette is usually more interesting when Lauren I graces us with here sharp wit to go along with the big smile.  We caught up with Lauren I and asked her what she thought about this year's Volt team; "With one less Schoenhofen on the team, we should be 33% better".  Well said Lauren!

Tom Emansky School - The Volts go through some rigorous pre-game drills as they play this fascinating game called; catch.  Last night was a bit weird in the sense that it seemed more like a 6:30 game than a 7:30 start.  Players arrived to the Lion's Den one by one and never really met as a unit until a minute or two before the first pitch.  The results worked out pretty well as Beggars can attest to on the losing end of a beatdown.

Fizzy - Ryno went out and bought another pair of shoes.  He now has as many pairs of shoes as he does arm sleeves.  The shoes worked as Ryno extended his record to 3-0 and helped himself with a three-run HR.  We won't talk about his next at bat after the bomb.

That's My Move - Koz shows up at the wire, which is Sutes patented move.  Koz was asked about his evening and snapped back; "Yeah, the key for myself offensively was missing the twist warmup led by Zlogar.  That won't happen again."  Yep, Commissioner Z will be leading hot yoga before this is all over.

Pandering - Jack is seen here loitering in front of the Gazette cameraman in an attempt to be asked a question.  Wah wah wah

The New Daily Double and the Real Ryno - Ash joins Cub Hall of Famer Ryne Sandburg for this photo op in front of our Gazette staffer, Shelley Peanuts.  Nice day at work.  Hmmmmmmmm....did Ryno just so happen to have a baseball or did Ashlee?
