Another Day in Paradise

Image
New Lenox, IL - There have been some interesting games played at the Lions Den over the years but likely none more bizarre than the tilt between High Voltage and Paradise Bay on Tuesday evening.  The two highest scoring teams in the league heading into the game could only muster a total of 19 runs in 10 innings of play.  The league apparently has play until someone wins clause or this game would have ended in a tie after 8 innings with the score tied at 8.  The Volts took a quick 4-0 lead and held that advantage until adding a run in the 3rd inning to go up by five.  PB scored their first run on a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-1 after three innings. The Volts went scoreless in the 4th while PB cut the lead to 5-3 on shortstop Moron's homerun.  The Volts scored twice in the 5th to reassert their lead at 7-3 only to have PB come back and tie the game at 7 with a Martin blast over the left-center field fence.  PB was out of homeruns and the Volts h...

Volts Slap Around Corona

Image
New Lenox, IL - The night was over for Corona nearly before it started.  The Volts came out swinging and beat up on the winless "ended the world" squad.  Sutes hit a walkoff grand slam to bring the contest to a merciful end with the Volts logging an 18-3 victory.  The score was so lopsided that a fan called the police to break up the game.  Reporter Bob caught up with Sutes after the game for a quote; "yeah, I told the guys to do whatever it takes to load the bases so I could get the winning poke and for once, they actually did what they were supposed to do..................make me the hero".  The win brings the Volts to a record of 4-2, which is good enough for a 2nd place tie with Chuck's whom lost to the Brew Jays in a squeaker.  Action resumes next Tuesday at 6:30 PM against Paradise Bay. Noteables: Better Late Than Never - Zlogar was late to the game last night and the Volts had to start with nine players.  Z was overheard in the dugout t...

Volts Grounded by Chuck's

Image
New Lenox, IL - Tuesday's battle between High Voltage and 2023 league champion, Chuck's, was to temporarily settle first place rights as each team had 3-1 records coming into the action.  Chuck's won the battle to get the third base dugout and didn't stop there in route to a 17-12 victory over the Volts.  The action started off with the visiting Volts  pushing two runs across the plate to score Koz and Stapes on separate RBI's by Zlogar and Jeff.  Chuck's did not waste time in the bottom of the inning by scoring the first four batters to take a 4-2 lead heading into the 2nd.  Foster started things with a one out single and later scored on an RBI double by Jay to tighten the score at 4-3 after Chuck's went out 1-2-3 in their half of the inning.  Sutes led off the third inning with a single and scored on a Jeff RBI single to tie up the game.  Jeff came around to score with a two out Jack RBI base-on-balls for a brief 5-4 Volt lead before Chuck's ...
