New Lenox, IL - The Volts took on Transcend Reality this past Tuesday in what was a battle for first place. The Sparks came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record, while Transcend was 4-0-1. The game was close the entire way with Transcend holding narrow leads with the Volts briefly tying the game at six runs apiece after three innings. After Transcend outscored HV in the 4th inning 5-4, the former held an 11-10 lead going into the fifth. Transcend unleashed for a nine run outburst to take a 20-10 lead with the Volts only needing to score one run to keep the game going. After a leadoff Foster base hit, Shane came into run for Ry. Jerry flew out to left center for the first out. Jay followed with a deep fly to left center and Shane decided to tag up and try to get to 2nd base. He was actually safe but Justump correctly called him out to put the Volts out of their misery. The game featured Volts making defensive mistakes and boneheaded baserunning plays all night long. The short-handed Transcend had to much Bill$. It was Bill$ left, Bill$ right, Bill$ middle, and even a Bill$ defensive gem on a sharp Stapes grounder to third that ended in a rare 5-4 double play. Transcend has stamped itself as the early favorites to win the final Tuesday night league at the Old Lions Den. Next week is a 6:30PM tilt against Cosgrove Construction. Anyone wearing a Freakazoid costume to the game will get a free mint from Cosgrove.
Notables:
Vacationing - As of Sunday nights writing of this rag, the standings have not been updated. Apparently, the park district is as interested in updating the sight as we are in writing the game recap this week. Only four more regular season games remain at the Old Lions Den. Next week will start our feature of the top 5 moments in the lore of Tuesday nights at the old ballpark.
Lineup Card - With the Schoenhofen's on an excursion to the Northlands, Pratl did the duties of making out the lineup. Justin played the role of Jake Koz in the lineup and was anything but Jake Koz, as he got gunned down at second base inexplicably trying to tag up on a shallow fly ball to left center field.
Low Light - Three fans were in attendance to witness the the two-time defending champs in a battle for first place in the nightcap. Mr. Sutes did not want to be filmed as he was too embarrassed to be witness to the beatdown.
The Cat - The new and improved Bill turned back the clock and was throwing leather around like 30 year old.
Inner Workings - Gazette photographer Scat Chiaroscuro snuck into the Volts dugout when security let its guard down to capture the ingame shot of the players creating the illusion that they were going to beat their opponent. Likely that only Jeff will get this Easter Egg.
