5/11/2021 Game Preview
New Lenox, IL - The Master Batters had a mixed bag of seasons last year with the fall campaign being the more successful of the two. MB made the post season in the fall and were eliminated by tomorrow night's opponents, Hammered in heartbreaking fashion. Hammered rallied in the bottom of the 7th to send MB packing for the winter. Captain Jack is looking for some revenge in tomorrow evening's tilt against their rival. Look for some extra eye black from the flashy left fielder as he will put the chip on MB's shoulder to try and avenge last year's tough exit. With both teams coming into the game at 1-0, this is an important early season game for position in the standings. Game time is at 6:30 PM, which will leave plenty of time for the working crowd to tailgate afterward.
Noteables:
Ricky Bobby - Cap'n Jack is relishing being undefeated in the early going saying that it's good to be sitting atop the standings. He was heard saying "if you ain't first, your last".
D-bag not D1 - In some early pre-game banter before the matchup vs The Green Team, Zlogar was heard saying about one of the opposition big dudes "man it looks like he played D1 ball". 20 minutes and two errors later by the alleged D1 star, Jack whispered to Zlogs "hey, that guy definitely didn't play D1".
Where are all the donuts? - Last week's 16-0 win over The Green Team was only the second time in team history that MB was involved in a shutout. The only previous date with a goose egg was a 10-0 win over Beggars in the Summer of 2016.
No Double and a Single and a Fin - Before doubling in his second at bat last Tuesday, Koz found 6 bucks lying near the batters box, which nobody on MB claimed as their own. Cap'n Jack added the money into the team fund. The kitty now totals six dollars.
Carbon Footprint - The Green Team kept energy efficient with a quick exit in the minimum four innings.
Jersey Number - Arik, taking the summer off, must know that he is stuck on 69 career hits.
A Quarter - Gary recorded 3 of the 12 putouts in last Tuesday's ballgame.
Milestone - Jack made his 400 lifetime plate appearance in Tuesday's ballgame. Thank you to Jack for keeping stats to actually know that feat!
Have a Foster's - Ryan knocked in his 60th lifetime RBI for MB. He now has as many RBI's as arm sleeves.
Clink - Ken has 163 hits in his career placing him comfortably at 3rd on the MB all-time list.
