The Weather Was Sure Pleasant Yesterday Evening

 












Noteables:

Leg Sleeve? - Rhino and Koz were having a riveting conversation before the game about Ry's "arm sleeve".  Turns out that Rhino converted a leg sleeve into arm-wear and then quickly added that his "guns" are so big that the sleeve makes a nice fit.





Where's Waldo? - Take a look at the scoresheet from last evening's game and see how many hits you can find.





Yves St. Laurent - Getting blown out is not what you vision when heading to the ballpark to play a game.  Although the outcome was a mess, there is still a lot of fun associated with even a 22-1 loss.  Seen here is a Zlogar fashion statement of "high socks?", "leggings?", "leotard?", or other. NOTE: I think that the Brew Jay in the picture is even pointing this out to the Gazette photographer to capture the shot. The Gazette asked some fans and fellow teammates for a simple description of the look.  Here are the comments: "Dweebie", "Pirates of Penzance", "Lazy Athletic Trainer", "Oh (followed by long silence), "Leggings?", and finally, "Jeggings???".  Thanks for being a sport Zlogar.  You may aspire to have as many leg covering varieties as Foster and Koz have arm sleeves.

Not Quite a Football Score - The 22 part is real but nobody has found a way to make 1 point their only score in a football game.....................Another failure by the Gnaturals on Tuesday.

"That's why you run out the fucking ball" - A female fan shouted when an unnamed Gnatural failed to run out a ground ball that the pitcher inexplicably threw 20 feet wild.  Said runner gathered it in enough to get to 1st base safely. 

Me! Me!! Me!!! Me!!!! - Koz called the entire Gnatural team off of a VERY high popup just outside of the infield in right field (ala Kelly from the original Bad News Bears) and promptly ran 10 feet past the ball as it landed safely for a Brew Jay double.  Ken was quoted "You know you're having a bad night when Koz does that.  I haven't seen him miss that kind of a popup since he was 8".  Oddly enough, the team that an 8-year old Jake played on was..........................you guessed it, the Blue Jays.  Of course.

Thank you sir, may I have another? - Was the mantra as the Brew Jays were kicking the Gnatural's asses on Tuesday evening.  Everyone on the grounds was pulling for them to score enough runs to end the game early after four innings.  

Oh No - There's two guys running around New Lenox looking like this? (see below)






A Rare Feat - Zlogar's doppelganger (seen above) hit two homeruns in the 3rd inning of the ballgame; one that counted and one that was an out as the Jays whacked four homeruns in the same frame.

Happy Together - The bad loss did not discourage the Gnaturals from hanging around afterwards for a night cap.  Might be the first time ever that this many players stuck around so that's a plus which can be taken from the beatdown.




Just a light scratch - Before kicking out the Gnaturals and turning off the lights, Groundskeeper, Sugar Cone Steve, is seen tending to the batters box area.




If you're not first...........so what - Editor's note to the Gnaturals.  Everyone makes the playoffs.  You only have to be good on two nights so finish the season on your terms and have fun.  Then take that carefree attitude into the playoffs and give em hell!

  New Lenox, IL - It's been a long time coming for the team that started in this league in 2015.  Dozens of players and non-players who were called into action have taken at-bats for the Master Batters, Gnaturals, and High Voltage. Last night was the night that everything came together and High Voltage got over the hump to win its first championship in the team's 19th season. The first game of the evening pitted the #3 seeded Volts against last year's Summer League champions #2 seeded Chuck's.  The game was nip and tuck all game long until Chuck's rolled a five-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 15-12 lead over the Volts.  High Voltage has seen this movie many times in the past and has gone out quietly to end the season without ever having gotten a chance to play in the finals.  This year seemed no exception with the Volts making two outs in the first three batters in the top of their final inning.  The tide changed with a runner on first whe...

Dog Days of Summer

  New Lenox, IL -  Some rando thoughts on things in no particular order.  Thanks to Jack for the title. By The Numbers - High Voltage was the class of the field heading into the playoffs but bad luck or fate had the team finishing in third place during the regular season.  Everything panned out like it should by the numbers except the Ivy win over BJ.  It does make sense when we all know, if you've ever read a playoff edition of the Gazette, that BJ struggles in its first playoff game.  Don't know why that is but they've underperformed their record nearly every "first playoff game" and in fact have lost some upsets in the process.  HV ended up with the most wins at 10, tied for the least losses at 3,best winning percentage at .769, most runs scored per game 15.31, and fewest runs allowed per game 7.77.  Folks, when you are statistically ahead at the end of the year in each category, you should be holding the championship trophy,  In this cas...

Volts Slice Up Beggars

New Lenox, IL - The first round of the playoffs saw High Voltage taking on Beggars in a rematch of last week's game that ended with the Volts winning a 13-3 run rule shortened game. The weather was hot and emotions were high on "Pink Out" night in support of the real captain of the Schoenhofen ship, Kathy.  Beggars started out the game auspiciously with a leadoff walk but the Volt defense, which has been the stingiest unit in the Summer league, continued its brilliance with a nifty fielders choice to record the first out of the game and snuffed out the inning with a 5-6-3 double play.  High Voltage started the scoring when Stapes knocked in Jay on a SAC fly, and was followed by a Sutes solo homerun to cap off the inning ahead 2-0.  Beggars clawed back into the game by scoring two runs in their half of the second inning.  Volts came roaring back when Jake led off the bottom of the inning with a legged out double and was knocked home on a Noah triple.  Jeff follo...
