Beggars Delivers Loss to Gnaturals

New Lenox, IL - After a rainy past few weeks in the southlands, summer weather returned to the Lions Den along with softball.  The Gnaturals were in action against Beggars in the opening match after the original opener was sleeted out a week ago.   The Gnats started out with a first inning burst to push across their first four hitters. After being blanked in the second Arik with an A scored on a Stapes fielders choice. The Gnats scored three times in the 4th inning and another pair in the 5th against Beggars starter Cheesy McSausage.  Trailing 15 - 10 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, which would be the last due to time limit, the Gnats launched a furious rally that came up short with Ken lining out to the Beggar clumsy shortstop who had four previous errors in the game.  Gnats fell by the score of 15-14 and will try to right the ship next week at 6:30 vs Jim Morrison and the Storm Riders.

Noteables:

If You're Lucky, You Learn Something Every Day - Jack described Ken's lineout to end the game a "piss missle".  That's a new baseball term that will live on.

Role Call - Name tents were issued to the four fans that showed up to support the Gnats.  Thank you Ash, Lauren, Kath and Debbie, you are the only eligibles  for perfect attendance night at Sox Park.

Wendy's - Arik was Four for Four in tonight's game.

Hat Trick - Dylan became the third Foster to play for the Gnats joining the brothers Brad and Ryan.  Dylan is now related in the Gnatural sense.

Shot Heard Round the World - Ken's liner to end the game was heard all the way on Constitution and Schoolhouse as reported by Citizen Zlogar.

Who's On First - After thinking that they had gotten permission for a pinch runner, Jack came into the game to run for Ken.  A couple of pitches later, Ump Kevin questions the Ken Brothers as he had not given verbal confirmation to allow the switch.  After some arm waving and chirping, Jack was allowed to stay in for Old School.

Rope - Not just a Foo Fighters song.  The Gnaturals stuck around after their game to give former teammate Koz some raspberries.  Koz responded by lining a double to the outfield which prompted the Gnats onlookers to demand that Ump Kevin check his bat.

Clutch - Pratl hit a huge homerun in the bottom of the 6th to pull the Gnats within one run.

Walking Pirate of Penzance - Zlogar played team ball by inducing a clutch walk in the 6th inning to represent what would have been the game tying run had Ken's piss missile not been caught.

Standout Stats - Arik went 4-4 batting second with three runs scored.  Jeff was perfect on the night with a hit, two walks and a SAC.  Pratl went 3-4 with five RBI.  Kevin only blew three calls behind the dish.
