Gnats Zap Ivy to Remain In First Place

New Lenox, IL - On a freezing cold early Fall night at the Lion's Den, the action was hot as the Gnaturals hosted Ivy League in a battle to remain in first place.  The game started out with Ivy pushing three runs across in the first half of the inning to put their stamp on the game.  The ink on the stamp did not last long as the Gnats once again blitzed their opponent by putting their first five batters on base in route to a crooked 8 run first inning.  The game tightened up in the second inning as Ivy scored three runs and held the Gnaturals scoreless for a Gnat 8-6 lead after two innings.  Ivy tied the score in the third at 8-8 before Ken and Ryno each provided RBI singles to post a 10-8 Gnat lead after three stanzas.  Ivy was held scoreless in the fourth inning while Pratl and Jamaica produced RBI hits to put the Gnats in a 12-8 lead after four innings. Ivy cut the score to 12-11 before Jack hit an RBI single and Sutes hit a clutch three-run bomb to put the Gnaturals up 16-11 after five innings.  With just over five minutes remaining on the game clock, Ivy put together a rally to score a run and ultimately load the bases for Big Koz (no relation).  BK delivered a clutch grand slam to tie the game at 16 before Ivy made their final outs of the inning to remain deadlocked heading into the bottom of the sixth inning with a minute left on the clock.  Jamaica started the frame with a base hit and advanced to second on a Zlogar flyout.  The heads up play by Dylan put the winning run on second base with one out and the Artist up to bat.  Jeff delivered with the game winning RBI single to push the Gnats past Ivy 17-16 and remain in first place with one week to go in the regular season.  The walkoff RBI is the first of his career by Jeff, who is back for the first time since partially tearing a labrum. The win eliminates Ivy from regular season first place honors and puts the Gnats on a collision course with the Demons and destiny as they try to clinch first place in the 2022 Fall League.  Game time next week is 8:30PM against Deacon's Demons as the Gnaturals look to extend their winning streak to five games in the regular season finale.  It is Bring Drinks, More Drinks, and a Friend Night at the Lion's Den so come out to support your hometown heroes.

Noteables:

No Flags - It's just a shocker that after last week's walkoff Yankee homerun sent Sutes into the arms of the Kozster, the Sutor home does not have the NY flag flying proudly from the palatial estates.  The 27 all-time World Series wins is obviously not impressive enough for this family to get excited about.

Editor's Note - Correction from last week on finding stuff in one's pocket from the previous wedding.  While the cards from Jeff Enterprises found in the suit pocket were from the Jack/Lauren wedding, it was pointed out to Mr. Gazette that the pocket square was from the Jake/Krystal wedding in October of 2021.  Thank you to Mrs. Gazette for the correct information AND always being right.

Faceoff - Hockey season must be coming soon.  Jake Koz had his putter regripped this past week ahead of the Arik With An A bachelor golf trip to Kentucky.  Koz went with the "Flat Cat" so that he can Happy Gilmore his putts into the hole from the blue line.

Pendulum
- It has not been seen since Jake Koz showed up to 9 year-old all star tryouts with a Game Boy instead of his baseball glove that a player came to the field without their equipment.  At least until tonight when Ryno showed up to the field with a cooler full of beer and no glove.  Luckily, Ryno lives less than a mile from the field and made the quick trip to and fro in less time than it takes him to run to first base.

Mumma Says - Gale told Koz to inform the boys to stop hitting the ball to the shortstop.  Koz relayed the message to the team and indicated that the squad would listen to the plucky blonde mom.

Family Matters - Uncle Gary stopped over to visit Tori and Jake Koz after the game was over.  After the pleasantries with the family, Gary was seen in serious discussion with Gnats team brass to discuss what a 2023 season wearing the green and black would look like.

Blankets For Everyone - Tonight was Poser Night at the old ball park as Delmy, Leah, and Tori mug it up for Gazette staff photographer Candi Striper.

Plus One - Deb got in on the action as she would not be outdone by the youngsters on Poser Night.

Suted - Dave Sutor joined daughter Alex and the "in-laws" at the game tonight.  The Gazette will pay anyone who can take a picture of Dave without a smile on his face as it is likely impossible.  Deb starts to get carried away with the "Poser" thing by photo bombing the Sute Troops.

One Plus II - Laurie Sutor is not to be outdone as she sachet's across our cameras to be included on the Who's Who of tonight's big victory.

Really? - Keeping things on a Sutor theme, the house is now sporting the Viking flag from the front porch.  Come on man!  You beat the shithole Detroit Lions by four lousy points and had to come from behind to do that.  That feat warrants flying the Viking flag?  The Gazette would prefer that you fly the Gnaturals flag when the team takes first place.  Get on that quick Cap'n Jack..................a big ole Gnaturals banner.
