Brussel Sprouts and Belgium Waffles

New Lenox, IL - The Tuesday night game against Ivy League is postponed due to rain.  Next week's game is Tuesday, November 1st at 7:30 with championship game to follow afterward.

If you are not pictured in this week's Gazette, it means that you were not at optional practice this past Sunday.  Practice this Sunday, October 30th weather permitting at Lions Den at 9:30 am.  Join the team and their new friend, Neighbor Bob for coffee and donuts as we present the friendly man with a case of Bud Light.

Noteables:

A Little Better - Seems like Jack doesn't value this vehicle as much as "The Great Mustang".  For my money, that other space IS a parking spot and you'd be better served parking six inches on the grass to get yourself some space from the jag parked in the spot just north of it........which is where Jack is currently parked.

Perfect Day - The Gnatural Six showed up at the Lions Den this past Sunday to hold an optional practice.  Old School Ken proclaimed it the nicest weather day in the history of late October.  The sunshine was out in force, which was an interesting obstacle the outfielders would later encounter during fielding drills.

The Best - Why is the most perfect plot of sod the area between outside the left field fence and the "protective" fence in front of the basketball court?  Rumor is going around in New Lenox that Park Dufus Keith holds his family croquette tournament in that area, which has zero weeds, thick lush grass, and perfectly trimmed edges.  Additionally, the area between the walking path and the bike trail is a perfect place for Grandma to flop a dookie when the port-o-John is a distant thought.

Field of Dreams - The Lions Den is a whole different vibe in the early morning sunshine.

Ain't That Grate - Gazette photographer, Boots Trippums, took this pic of the grate underneath the home plate dirt.  The issue is not so much that there is a grate under the batters box.  The issue is that the batters box lacks three inches of clay and dirt to cover it.  The batters box itself is a hole.

Saved by the Net - Al Koz would have had to dodge four comebackers if it were not for this wonderful protective tool.  Hats off to all of the pitchers in this league!

Tom Emansky - After Koz hit a couple of practice pitches over the right field fence and some Gnats outfielders went to retrieve them, Neighbor Bob, whose yard has been pelted with softballs like it were a war zone, had something for the boys.  Two recycle bins full of balls.  In order to get the balls to the bucket near home plate, each Gnat performed the relay drill to get the balls to their new home.

Home Sweet Home - This is what the bucket looked like after filling it with home run balls and before Cap'n Jack swooped in to take some for the team.  Easily a few hundred dollars worth of softballs all for the price of a case of Bud Light.  Neighbor Bob would like to thank all of you who popped out for your generosity.

What? - Went to a softball practice and a hockey game broke out.  Unfortunately, we are at the time of year that is closer to the ground freezing than a ninety degree temperature, so Jake and Ken are planning accordingly by displaying the one skate that they will use this year on the pond.  Not sure if the other foot will be covered in  shoe or just socks.  Stay tuned for the winter Gazette's coverage of pond hockey.

More Commercials - Can't seem to get away from all of the political commercials, signs, and election talk.  Pictured is a Trump endorsed Barta two-face model.

Half a Dozen - What started out to be an optional practice turned into a Gnaturals public relations tour de force.  After packing it up before noon on Sunday, the boys went to rake leaves for shut-ins and carry in groceries for the elderly.
