High Voltage Tops Beggars in Opener

New Lenox, IL - High Voltage began the Fall 2023 season on Tuesday evening against long time rival Beggars Pizza after suffering a bitter loss to White Horse in the Summer playoffs just three weeks ago.  The visiting pie boys started the scoring with two runs to open a very brief lead.  High Voltage batted around in the first inning, sending 18 men to the plate in route to scoring 13 runs to take a stranglehold of the game after only one inning.  Both teams went scoreless in the second inning to hold the score at 13-2 heading into the third inning.  Beggars scored two runs while HV came back with a one spot for a 14-4 lead after three innings. Beggars pecked away with three runs in the top of the 4th to cut the lead in half 14-7 but HV batted around in their half of the inning to score six runs and leave the inning ahead 20-7.  Beggars mounted a six run rally in their half of the 5th inning to close the gap back to seven runs but the determined High Voltage scored three runs without making an out in their half of the inning to end the game early at 23-13. Every batter in the High Voltage lineup recorded a hit and scored a run.  High Voltage play next on August 22 at 8:30 PM against Ivy League.

Noteables:

Lizzie McGuire - Always notable, Liz becomes the 2023 Fall Season first Noteable by being seen in PetSmart on Tuesday afternoon with her pup Nala.  Argus is seen here vying for her affection.  In what has to be a Gazette first, Liz learned that you can return an outgrown dog collar to PetSmart.  Field reporter Lon G. Leash was there to record the clerk informing Liz of the policy.  Small world.

Tricky Day - With over 2" of rain falling on Monday, the crack staff at the NLCPD had the facilities in fine shape for Tuesday softball and volleyball.  The weather was perfect with some low puffy clouds and temperatures in the low 70's.  Make sure to bring your mosquito repellant to next week's games as the heat and recent rains will add fuel to the bug-fest.

Crimes Against Baseball - The crappy White Sox of the early 80's thought it would be a novel idea to have first baseman, Mike Squires, catch an inning or two.  Squires you see, was a left-handed fielder.  Several decades later, Beggars didn't get the memo as they trotted out a left-handed shortstop to start the game.  He didn't last three outs as he was switched due to suckyness and having to do a pirouette on routine grounders to launch throws into short right field.  Lefty would ultimately pitch for Beggars. The orange-shoed lefty got on base all three times he batted so you can't fault Beggars for getting him in the lineup.......but you can fault them for playing him at shortstop.

Tools - All you need is a bucket, tie wrap, GoPro, set of diagonal cutters, and this bitching new blue Sharpie S-Gel pen that is going to be carrying the load this fall.  Let's see if you boys can run this sonofabitch out of ink with some long innings at the plate.

Even Flow - Eddie Vedder showed up and played for Beggars on Tuesday. Ed proved why he should stick to the stage by going oh for three on the night.

Shaggy - Glad to see Mr. Sutes, Scoots, moving around so well these days.  Dave is seen here shagging a few baseballs out of the woods.

Oh Yes They Did - We did catch the lefty on camera playing short before he was given the quick hook.  Be careful what you do on Tuesday nights because the Gazette staff is more likely looking at something else beside the game.

Jumpin' Jack - Went 3-for-5 on the night with three runs scored and two RBI.  Jack was credited with a double on the last play of the night as he hustled over to touch 2nd base before Jamaica scored the run that ended things.  Jack also incurred a fine by sending Zlogar from second base to get easily doubled out when the outfielder caught the ball and made the peg to the bag for the twin killing.

With An A - Arik was 1-for-4 on the night with a run scored and an RBI.  Arik was only four batters away in the first inning to becoming an all-time stat.  Arik could have become the first person in team history to make all three outs in an inning but we were all deprived of that when the final out was made thus keeping A to making two outs in the inning.

Stapes - Jas went four-for-four on the evening with four runs scored and six RBI.  Most notable was that on the strength of his infield triple, Stapes hit for the cycle!  Captain stats is going to have to go to the record books to tell us how many times that has been done in team history, but this is the second time this year the feat has been accomplished.

Sutes - Went 3-for-3 on the evening with a SAC fly that he bragged was not an out when he came back to the dugout.  Sutes scored three runs and also had six RBI with two homeruns.  His first homerun incurs a fine as it was a solo shot over the left field fence.  The defensive highlight of the game occurred in the 5th inning as Sutes took a relay from Jamaica and unleashed a cannon to Ken for an 8-6-5 putout of #22 Tubbo Skittles of Beggars. As you can see in the picture, Sutes tries a new batting stance in attempt to throttle his power down to keep the ball inside the park.

Zlogar - Had a perfect night at the plate as well by going 3-for-3 and a walk.  Z scored two runs and made a hustle play in the first inning to stretch a single into a deke-out double.  Yabba-dabba-doo!!!

Pratl - 3-for-4 on the evening with one run scored and an RBI.  Pratl did a fine job in right-center field covering for the absent Koz with a couple of putouts.

Jamaica - 2-for-4 on the night with a run scored and two RBI.  Dylan had an assist on the aforementioned 8-6-5 double play and also had two putouts in left-center. Dylan popped out to left-center in the third inning for a no-no fine.

Jeff - The Artist went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI as well as a walk.  Jeff popped out to right-center field to make the last out in the first inning and deprive us all of the hope of seeing Arik With an A run the table of making all three outs.  Shame on you.

Ken - Ohms Law went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.  Ken also laid the tag on Skittles in the defensive play of the night by planting one right on the Beggars runner's cranium.  The runner self-admittedly stopped in sheer fear of being hit by the Missle had he continued toward the bag.

Foster - 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI, and three runs scored.  Ryno struck out a batter, made a snare on a comeback liner to the mound, and walked four batters on the way to his first victory in the fall league.
