Beggars Handles High Voltage

New Lenox, IL - On a night where the Fall League actually felt like a fall game because of the cooler weather conditions, High Voltage and Beggars squared off for the honors of taking 3rd place in the Tuesday league.  The game started out looking good for the Volts. Koz, leading off the game (more on that in the Notables), opened the Volt hitting with a legit single that turned into a little league triple. Stapes followed with an RBI single and Sutes with an RBI triple to put the Volts on top 2-0. Sutes later scored on a Zlogar fielders choice RBI to put the home team up 3-0. With one out and two runners in scoring position, Jeff delivered a sharp 2 RBI single to put the Volts up 5-0 after a half inning of play. After opening the bottom of the inning with singles from Billy Mouth and Lefty Black, Beggars appeared to be poised for a big opening inning until Ken had something to say about that. The third hitter grounded sharply to Ohm's Law, who would step on third for the force, and hurl the ball to second base for a 5-4 double play. After a Beggars flyout, the Volts were in great position to take command of the game leading 5-0 after an inning. That is where things went off track for the Volts and their bats but they didn't know it yet. . High Voltage came back with two runs in the second inning when a Sutes 2 RBI homerun knocked in Stapes, who had previously doubled.  Beggars put nine runs across in their half of the second to take a 9-7 lead and never looked back.  The Volts went out 1-2-3 in the third while Beggars piled on six runs  to take a 15-7 lead after three frames. Ryno led off the fourth inning with a walk, and Koz followed with a 2 RBI inside the park homerun.  Sutes singled and would later score on another Zlogar RBI fielders choice to end the scoring with the Volts trailing 15-10 after three and a half innings. The Beggars bats tacked on another five runs to lead 20-10 heading into what would be the final Volt at bat when they went out 1-2-3 to mercifully end the game in the fifth inning.  With the loss, Beggars is the third place team while High Voltage slipped to fourth place with their 3-5 Fall League Record.  Game time on Tuesday, October 17th is at 6:30PM vs Ivy League in the first round of the playoffs.

Notables:

The Money Game - White Horse defeated Brew Jays 24-11 to secure 1st place in the regular season standings.

Playoff Bracket - Things are pretty simple to figure out for High Voltage.  Beat Ivy League and advance to play White Horse for the honors of being in the championship game.  Our staff prognosticator will look into the playoff predictions, but we will state this; the winner of the HV vs IL game has the easiest path to the finals.

No, no, no, and NO - Jack was looking to change things up for the Volt lineup to produce more runs.  The regular leadoff hitter placed himself fourth in the lineup to serve as the "second" leadoff while sliding Koz, Stapes and Sutes up one spot. How many times has Jack gone 2 for 3 and not scored a run?  End of story.  Dear High Voltage, get your heads out yer asses and GET HITS!

It's Been a While - Lauren I, we didn't forget about you. This one is a tribute to the Northlands Nurse. In the degree of difficulty in playing sports, Gymnastics is a much harder go than baseball or softball.  I would dare say that the latter is based on fast-pitch, so the Tuesday New Lenox Softball League is likely easier to play than the numbers indicate.  In the second letter to the team tonight......From Lauren I, Dear High Voltage, Suck it!  You are playing a wimp sport.

Double Barrel - For Christ's sake team, can you win a game this coming week?  Poor Deb has taken to two-fisted drinking because of you.

The Crowd - The Volts joined the crowd tonight for fan appreciation night. The team made themselves available to "glad-hand", take pictures, and sign autographs for the faithful fanatics.

Go, STOP, Whatever- Jeff was featured in the funniest moment of the night that most of you probably were unaware.  When Koz hit the ball to right-center field in the 4th inning and it was being misplayed by Beggars, he steamed around second base and was heading to third for what looked like a stand-up triple.  Jeff was coaching third base and said go, then immediately STOP.  Koz went with the first command and never hesitated as he blew by third to score easily with a stand-up inside-the-park homerun.  Jeff and Mr. Blatzo had a laugh about that one.

Have a Ball - If you learn something every day, you are lucky.  Today, you are going to learn a little bit about the softball.  Yes, even Z, who is currently riding the Tea Cups, will learn something today. Similar to golf balls, a softball is not a softball. A softball has a COR (Coefficient of Restitution) and a Compression rating.  The lower number the COR, the less bouncy. Compression is the hardness of the ball.  The harder the ball, the further it will fly given the same impact. The softballs used in the New Lenox Tuesday night league are Gold Dots made by Worth.  Gold Dot softballs are rated at 44/375, which means that the boys are playing with a low to medium bouncy ball, and the high end of restricted flight ball available. Gray dot is 40/375, Blue dot 47/525, and Red dot 50/600.  Much to the chagrin of pitchers and third basemen everywhere, the Tuesday night balls used are not even close to the most dangerous varieties out there.  So sports fans, now you know what the color of the dot on a softball signifies and you can easily tell your friends what softball they are playing with on a given evening.

Star Struck - You never know who is going to show up for a game on Tuesday nights.  Ron Jeremy was catching for the Ivy League against the Turtles this past week.

Hats Off - We took a peek inside Koz's hat during the ball game.  El Capitan' scouted the game film and provided each of the outfielders with the tendencies of the opposing hitters. Hey, that film is sitting on YouTube for many reasons.  Good use of the video Jack.

New Team Forming? - We caught a picture of the two Koz's after the Volts ball game.  The two gentlemen are looking to branch off into a new team; They Call Me Koz.  Both Koz's are in talks with Bob Kozinski, Billy Kozmerik, Bobby Kozfield, Bucky Kozel, Biff Koztoff, Ben Kozerelli, Barton Kozloff, Bentley Koztentarez, and Blane Kozert. That, my friends, is going to be quite a sight when someone yells out; "Hey Koz!". Also, why do all of the first names begin with B?  Answer: B Koz

What Number Is This? - After declaring that the team may never win another ball game again, Ken announced his last game will be this coming week against Ivy League.  How many retirement announcements are we up to now?  This guy has more gold watches and rocking chairs from the years worth of world tours.  He's had more Final Tours than The Who.  Come out to the game next week to witness Ken's Final Game Again.

Playoff Predictions - The Gazette has use of the patented Bozoputer.  The Puter, as it is called, is generally indicative of spitting out information on whatever it is asked.  This week's task is to analyze the Tuesday night playoffs.  The team formerly known as Scrappers were the luckiest team on the planet for several years, and the results showed come playoff time as they would usually get bounced early.  The 2023 Summer version is now called White Horse, and was the unluckiest team, and when it got the opportunity to "balance out the averages", it did just that by winning the Summer Championship.  We don't have White Horse as the top team in the league.  In fact, they are the third best team in the league behind 2nd place Brew Jays, and our top team, Beggars.  So what does this all mean for the playoffs?  In a first round match, take Beggars to pound Daytona Turtles.  The Turtles has their fun in the sun by winning a game against HV, where the latter was more interested in dressing up for Halloween than it was in playing softball.  The next matchup between the Volts and Ivy is interesting....very interesting.  The game is a pickem with all of the sports betting establishments.  To save Mackenzie from asking co-workers at the water cooler, a pickem in sports betting lore means that no team is favored to win according to those who set the odds.  Not picking on you Kenz, referring back to the odds conversation of earlier this year.  Anyway, we believe that the winner of the High Voltage/Ivy League match has the easiest path to the finals by playing White Horse.  So who will win the game against two teams that currently have been lifeless?  The Gazette is going with the Bozoputer in picking High Voltage.  Both teams will be overly amped up for no good reason.  Ivy will have it's best lineup available and will be gunning for a rematch victory against the Volts but too amped up is not a good thing.  The Volts will man up this week and take care of business to advance to the semi-finals. In the semi's, Beggars will defeat Brew Jays to advance to the final.  Beggars are the hottest team in the league, and Brew Jays typically lay an egg in their first playoff match, especially coming off of a bye. The winner of the Volts/Ivy game WILL beat White Horse!  We are calling it now.  What we are saying is that Beggars will play High Voltage in the championship game.  It is too early to look at that game from a betting perspective, so we will leave the predictions right where they are for now. Dear Volts, Get HITS.  Dear Live Wires, be loud and louder!!!
