Scrapped

New Lenox, IL - High Voltage returned tonight after a two week hiatus to take on last year's playoff nemesis, The Scrappers.   The game started out close with the Volts taking a quick 2-1 lead after one inning.  The Volts batted around in the second inning to open up a commanding 11-1 lead and never looked back in route to a 14-2 run rule shortened game as their opponent could only muster up two runs on the night.  Sutes hit two homeruns and will lose sleep over not getting another opportunity to hit a third.  Jay made a half-dozen running catches in the early stages to solidify the defense.  Ryno recorded zero walks in the effort on his way to his second win of the season.  The Volts are now 2-0 while The Scrappers fall to 1-2.  The Volts play Beggars on Tuesday the 28th at 7:30PM.

Noteables:

Wally Pip - Missing from the game tonight was Dylan Foster who had a run in with another vehicle a few days ago and could not make the physically active list in time for the game.  Get well D.  Also missing was Alabama Mike. Whatever you do Mike, don't go on a canoe ride down one of those Bama rivers.

Dust Storm - The wind was really kicking tonight as half the field was blown away.  Ryno had predicted that he would walk 15 men tonight.  He actually would have walked at least 15 men except the wind was straightening his wild pitches into the strike zone.  Hey, whatever works.

Which is Which - The Daily Double congregate to determine where to play both Jay and Jimmy Letsos in the outfield.  The order came in from Koz to put Jay in left-center, and Letsos in right.  Move proved out pretty well as Jay made an estimated eight catches on the evening.  We didn't have our aces at the game early so we are reliant on the venerable Helen Keller for that total.

Crowd - The game was out of control and it is likely that nobody in the crowd noticed.  After the Volts recorded the last out to secure the game in five innings, one fan asked; "how many more innings do we have to go?".  The Volts have the most loyal fans in the league, maybe not always the most attentive.

The One That Got Away - Hoodie Bill showed up for practice on Sunday, but for whom?  He has three bats, a red backpack, heat stroke, and no teammates.  As it turns out, the hoodied one pitched the last inning in tonight's contest for The Scrappers.  Maybe the rest of the guys should have shown up to practice too.

Pat On The Back - The Daily Double brag to Mrs. Gazette about their deft defensive placement of the outfielders as the Volts gave up only two runs.  Rumor is that both Jack and Jake turned up for an x-ray to check out their shoulders from patting themselves on the back.

Thud - A horrific noise could be heard from the parking lot after the game tonight.  An accident near Cedar and Joliet Rd. put a damper on the evening for these folks.

The Kids Are Alright - Turns out that things are looking up and the folks in this scrumble are ok.  Thanks to part time Gazette photographer Lizzo for taking these pictures of the account.

Man's Best Friend - All of the love and energy go out to Molly.
