Volts Sweep Two - Take Commanding Lead

New Lenox, IL - It was a pleasant night at the Lion's Den and the Volts took on 40% of the league in the Brew Jays and Beggars.  The opener started with an offensive onslaught that had the Volts leading 11-0 after an inning.  Things only got better from there as the Volts pitched a shutout for another inning while adding on another seven runs in the 2nd to lead 18-0 after two frames.  Brew Jays fought back with a five spot to narrow the lead to 18-5, which is where things stood after three innings.  Both teams traded three-spots in the fourth inning to enter the 5th inning with the Volts leading 22-9.  The Brew Jays went quietly from there and the game ended in a run-rule 22-9 Volt victory to push their record to 3-0.  The Jays suffered their second loss of the night after an earlier loss to Paradise Bay.

The second game went even better than the first for the Volts after they jumped on Beggars for 12 runs to start the game.  Beggars pushed two runs across to narrow the lead to 12-2.  The Volt hit parade continued with a seven run outburst to take a commanding 19-2 lead into the bottom of the 2nd inning.  Beggars scored three times to narrow the gap to 19-5.  High Voltage answered back with a run in the third to take a 20-5 lead until Beggars plated four runs in their half of the inning to tighten the score at 20-8.  The Volts put things away in the 4th inning with a 14 run outburst to open up a 34-8 lead and would hold Beggars scoreless to romp 34-8 in a run rule shortened four inning game.

The Volts visit Paradise Bay Tuesday the 17th at 7:30PM and turn around and host Off The Rails at 8:30PM.

Noteables:

Pen With a Purpose - Tonight's Gazette is sponsored by Bic Ultra Round Stic Grip.  We were looking for the perfect pen to autograph a baseball and consulted with none other than Timmy Quill of Paradise Bay.  His prevailing logic for using this 1.2mm ball point pen is that it is thick enough to lay on a good signature, will not smear nor fade over time like black or silver Sharpie pen-like markers.  That is all we needed to hear from the king of the autographs.

Half a Heater - Our friend Heater Buggins has lost quite a bit of weight since the last time we've seen him.  His secret?  He's stopped smoking.  His other secret??  He's stopped eating as much.  Good on you Heater.  Will see you next spring.  Maybe I'll introduce you to Half-a-Bags, the former hurler/first baseman for the Master Batters.

Over Loaded - Great News! We've picked up quite a few new readers over the past several weeks.  Our old server wasn't prepared for the onslaught of network traffic, so we had to upgrade technology to facilitate the surge of new readers.  To pay for the upgrade, we are now going to be turning the Gazette into a subscription based service.  The staff here never thought that it would come to having to charge our loyal readers for this fine publication, but hopefully you'll understand and continue to support us.  Thank you for your understanding.  To subscribe to the new and improved Lions Den Gazette, click here for our subscription packages.

  1. Hey, the link doesn't work. I'd love to subscribe and read so I can get my undies in a bunch over humor. which is more interesting than playing in this league.

  2. So can I pay the subscription on an annual basis or monthly? And I suppose for an additional fee the all time stats could be bundled? Everyone loves bundles nowadays
