New Lenox, IL - High Voltage took on Off the Rails Tuesday evening looking to extend their win streak to three games in the 24' Fall League and remain in a tie for first place. The night didn't last very long as the Volts stormed for 11 runs in the first inning to take command of the game after Rails put up two runs in the top of the inning. The first eight batters hit safely before the first out was recorded. Trailing 11-2, Off the Rails scored two more times to cut the margin to seven runs. The Volts nearly batted around again in the second inning to score four runs and lead 15-4. The Rails rolled a two again to make the score 15-6 but High Voltage tore off another six runs to lead 21-6 after three innings. The Rails scored one last time in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 14 runs, which meant that the Volts only needed a single tally to end the game if ahead by 15 runs after four innings. The Volts did just that, and recorded a run on a Ryno RBI base hit to score Jeffrey Sketches and end the game 22-7 with none out in the home half of the fifth inning. High Voltage end the regular season next week with an 8:30 PM game against Bloggers Pizza. Next week is a Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Come on out in your pink cap, shirt, tie, earrings, shorts in support of those you love. Bring a pink drink for Kathy!!!
Noteables:
Standings - With one game remaining, the Volts are locked in a tie with Brew Jays for regular season honors. Beggars was eliminated from 1st place contention after getting pounded by the B Jays 22-2 in the late game and currently sit alone in 3rd place. Paradise Bay is in 4th place, and Off the Rails is searching for their first win of the Fall season bringing up the rear.
Short-lived Celebration - The Stats Family enjoyed a celebration "Blatzo" style when the Atlanta Braves defeated the NY Mets on the last day of the season to earn a spot into the NL playoffs. The celebration did not last long as the superior San Diego Padres sent the Bravos home packing with a 2-0 series sweep. Put the top back on and maybe next year Jackie!
Pumpkins - Old School is the proud grandpappy of this little fuzz ball. Congratulations go out to our personal favorite The Plucky One on her new found love. Please send footage after the pup chews your prized pair of shoes.
Holding Court - A big crowd gathers around after the game to listen to Mr. Modelski (in the background) give the finer points of guarding the slot while your defense mate chases the puck into the corner. To date, more people attended this impromptu seminar than have watched the new Bulls/Hawks/Sox Channel.

Lock of the Year - Just about everyone has a sports betting app these days. The talk in the dugout is more about "did you hit your four team parlay last Sunday" than it is "hey, let's get a hit". As you know, our sports prognostication staff is second to none in picking winners. Let's get your betting week off to a good start with our Lock of the Year. Take the money line at -1000 that High Voltage will be playing from the first base dugout this coming week. El Capitan' likes to get to the field an hour early but there will be no matching the dude from Beggars who gets to the field at 3PM. These are the only two guys in the league who have a relationship with the third base dugout. Lay the money and take H.V. to occupy the first base dugout in the 8:30 game. We'd love to provide a pick on Tuesday's opener but have it at 50/50 between Paradise Bay and Off the Rails as to who gets to the field first, or which dugout is preferred. Stay tuned on that tilt if we get late breaking info. Thank you to Gazette oddsmaker Don Pasko for the intel.
Editor's Note: - We'd like to send our apologies for a story reported several weeks ago. The Gazette could not substantiate the claims of the Three Stooges fishing trip but have since been corrected by fact-checker Angry Jack that the group had indeed caught 57 smallmouths on Lake Michigan. Our sincerest apologies to the group if we caused you any unnecessary unpleasantries.
Final Countdown - Eight days until the big wedding at the Bezos Estate. Rumor has it that Miguel will purchase his tuxedo on Prime Day in October so that he can beat the 30 day window and return it next Sunday. We've heard from a reliable source that Liz-Zlo will be returning her shoes, costume jewelry, and bouquet as well. Dear whoever catches the bouquet, run fast OR take a picture with it quick because it will be taken away from you. More to come in next week's Tuesday Edition.
57 indeed. Stay tuned for the next trip coming end of October with Jeffrey Sketches & Lauren 1.0 the OG Lauren
