Volts Come Up a Few Bill$ Short

Image
New Lenox, IL - The Volts took on Transcend Reality this past Tuesday in what was a battle for first place.  The Sparks came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record, while Transcend was 4-0-1.  The game was close the entire way with Transcend holding narrow leads with the Volts briefly tying the game at six runs apiece after three innings. After Transcend outscored HV in the 4th inning 5-4, the former held an 11-10 lead going into the fifth.  Transcend unleashed for a nine run outburst to take a 20-10 lead with the Volts only needing to score one run to keep the game going.  After a leadoff Foster base hit, Shane came into run for Ry.  Jerry flew out to left center for the first out.  Jay followed with a deep fly to left center and Shane decided to tag up and try to get to 2nd base.  He was actually safe but Justump correctly called him out to put the Volts out of their misery.  The game featured Volts making defensive mistakes and bonehea...

Volts Diffuse Bombers

New Lenox, IL - On a lovely summer night at the Lions Den, High Voltage squared up with Vegas Bombers in the late match. The visiting Volts jumped out of the gate in the first inning by batting around the lineup to take a 7-3 lead.  The inning featured all three of the Volts allotted home runs coming in the form of two-run blasts by Jay, Sutes, and Shane.  Out of homeruns early proved to be a non factor as the Volts scored in all but one inning in route to a 23-11 victory.  The game was closer than the score as the resilient Bombers scored enough runs to keep it close at 11-7 until the Volts unleashed a 12 run sixth inning to take an insurmountable lead heading into the bottom of the frame with no time left on the game clock.  Vegas Bombers scored four times in their final at bat to fall short and thus drop to 1-4 on the season.  Ryno struck out three and walked one on the way to his fifth win to start the season.  Shane recorded six outs in left-ce...

Late Heroics Hobble Moon Goons

New Lenox, IL - What started out to be a warm and windy day, turned out to be an 87 degree gem of an evening at the Lions Den when the gusts subsided by game time.  High Voltage took on the Moon Goons in what would be a high scoring extravaganza.  The game had it all; from good to bad hitting, fielding, and even umpiring.  In the end, the Volts pressed their record to 4-0 with a 22-19 victory over The Moon Goons in dramatic fashion.  The game started out with the Goons scoring five times and seemingly looking at a three pitch defensive inning until the outfielder dropped a fly ball in center field to keep the Volt at-bat alive. The Volts proceeded to score two runs on a Sutes homerun to right field out of what should have been nothing, to trail 5-2 after an inning.  The Goons battled back with three runs but were met with a Volt eight spot in their half of the second on the strength of Sutes 2nd HR of the evening.  The pesty Goons continued the hit ...

New Lenox, IL - With games running down at the old Lions Den, High Voltage took on The Rendel's for their first meeting on a lovely late spring evening.  The game didn't last long as the host Volts scored nine times in the 1st inning to establish early dominance.  After taking the second inning off at the plate, High Voltage scored twice in the 3rd inning to lead 11-0.  Rendel's went out quietly in the top of the 4th to set the stage for the winning rally.  Stapes led off the 4th with a solo homerun.  Two batters later, Pratl one-armed a two-run shot over left-center field fence to put the game within reach of an early exit.  Following base hits by Jerry and Bogo, Jeff ended the game with a rope RBI single, and a Volt 15-0 victory.  Ryno walked three batters and struck out three in route to a one-hit shutout.  With the victory, High Voltage moves into sole possession of first place.  Next week is a 6:30 PM game against the Moon Goons....

Another Day in Paradise

New Lenox, IL - It was another fine summer type weather evening at The Lions Den on Tuesday night with High Voltage taking on Paradise Bay in the 8:30 match. The visiting Volts got out to a quick start with a six spot in the first inning, and never relinquished the lead from that point.  Paradise answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead in half at 6-3.  The game totally got out of hand when the Volts scored 15 runs to take a commanding 21-3 lead.  Paradise scored another three runs to cut the deficit to 21-6 after two innings.  Each team matched a pair of runs in the third before flipping sides to start the fourth with the Volts leading 23-8.  Paradise scored one run to keep the game from ending in their at bat but High Voltage tallied in the bottom of the fourth to end the game 24-9 on run rule.  After the win, High Voltage ups its record to 2-0 for a first place tie with Transcend Realty while Paradise Bay fa...
