Volts Singe Beggars

Image
New Lenox, IL - The evening started out with High Voltage locked in a three-way battle for first place with the Brew Jays and arch-rival Beggars.  When the night ended, the Volts left Beggars wondering what happened in the seventh inning of their game.  Coupled with a Brew Jay loss, High Voltage finds themselves in sole possession of first place in the Tuesday Men's league as the only remaining undefeated team at 3 - 0.  The visiting Volts did not get off to the customary start after a Jack leadoff walk, Koz popout, and Stapes fielders choice.  With two out, Sutes hit a double to keep the inning alive for Noah to drill a much needed three-run homerun into the basketball courts for a three to nothing lead.  Beggars answered back with a run of their own in the first to trail 3-1 after an inning. The Volts came right back with a four-spot powered by a Ryno three-run homerun to stake a 7-1 lead.  Beggars fought right back by scoring their first four bat...

Scrapped

New Lenox, IL - High Voltage returned tonight after a two week hiatus to take on last year's playoff nemesis, The Scrappers.   The game started out close with the Volts taking a quick 2-1 lead after one inning.  The Volts batted around in the second inning to open up a commanding 11-1 lead and never looked back in route to a 14-2 run rule shortened game as their opponent could only muster up two runs on the night.  Sutes hit two homeruns and will lose sleep over not getting another opportunity to hit a third.  Jay made a half-dozen running catches in the early stages to solidify the defense.  Ryno recorded zero walks in the effort on his way to his second win of the season.  The Volts are now 2-0 while The Scrappers fall to 1-2.  The Volts play Beggars on Tuesday the 28th at 7:30PM. Noteables: Wally Pip - Missing from the game tonight was Dylan Foster who had a run in with another vehicle a few days ago and could not make the physically a...

An Evening With Jack

New Lenox, IL - Rainout today.  Bye next week.  See you all out at the Lion's Den on May 21st for a 7:30PM tilt against the Scrappers. Noteables: Give Yourself Up - OK, which one of you 5'10" hoodied clowns was running from the New Lenox police the other day?  I'm sure that whoever it was jumped in a car or an a motorbike to get away because most of you are not fast enough to outrun a sluggish cop. May the Fourth Be With You - We might have a new variety show brewing, Wade & Stapes.   Both are seen after viewing The Phantom Menace at the Old Colony Theater on 63rd and Kedzie.  When asked what his favorite part of the movie was, Stapes blurted out; "Getting home in one piece from 63rd and Kedzie".  Hey, that's pretty succinct.  Glad y'all had a great time. Out Here in the Fields - Kathy finally dumped Ken for Pete Townshend.  Wait, that's not Pete, it's Ken!  Kathy and Ken are seen in the green fields of Ireland as they continue...

Opening Night Success

New Lenox, IL - Softball is back at the Lions Den as High Voltage took on Corona ended the world. Corona may not have ended the world, but High Voltage ended the night early with a run scoring barrage that culminated in an opening night 17 - 2 victory in four short innings.  Coming into the game, Capn' Jack has stated that this might be the deepest team ever from a talent prospective.  With that, Jack ledoff the season with a single to open the action which led to four first inning runs.  High Voltage batted around in the second inning to extend to 11 runs.  Gazette reporter Helen Keller did not keep the scorebook for Corona so it is assumed that Ryno walked five men consecutively for the opposing team's two runs.   HV kept the foot on the gas pedal with a five-spot in the third inning to lead 15 - 2, and ultimately ended the game on a walkoff Stapes single (more on that later) to score Jeff for an early 17 -2 victory.  High Voltage face their ...
